Preliminary Insolvency

Questions & Answers

FreeVenture GmbH (Vanever Camper Rental) has filed for insolvency.
Attorney Rolf Pohlmann has been appointed as the provisional insolvency administrator.
Unfortunately, due in part to the legal framework governing the insolvency proceedings, we have had to make the following decision in the meantime:
Operations will cease on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Vehicles that have been booked can no longer be picked up after this date.
You probably have a lot of questions. Here you’ll find all the answers we can currently provide.
We’d love to answer all your questions right away, but unfortunately, we can’t. Many decisions are still pending and will only be clarified in the coming days and weeks. But here’s what we can promise: You’ll find all the answers we already have right here. This page reflects our current understanding of the situation. Our Customer Service team also doesn’t have any further information at this time. Therefore, it’s unfortunately not helpful to contact us or the provisional insolvency administrator’s office for additional information. As soon as there’s news, we’ll reach out to you proactively.

Why Operations Cannot Continue

FreeVenture GmbH’s primary vehicle supplier—a consortium of various camper manufacturers—terminated the vehicle program agreement on July 29, 2026, for cause due to late payment and prohibited the continued use of more than half of the company’s total fleet of approximately 430 vehicles. We expect that the other vehicle suppliers will also issue similar prohibitions on use.
Above all, however, continuing the rental business under the current circumstances is not economically viable: Since the vast majority of customers have paid for their reservations in full in advance, FreeVenture GmbH would no longer receive any funds upon vehicle handover. At the same time, ongoing costs—in particular compensation for loss of value to vehicle suppliers, as well as personnel and operating costs—could not be covered. Added to this is a mandatory requirement under insolvency law: The principle of equal treatment of creditors (“par condicio creditorum”) prohibits giving preference to individual creditors—including customers with prepaid reservations—over other creditors. A customer’s claim for the handover of a vehicle is an insolvency claim that may no longer be satisfied through performance.

What Affected Customers Should Do Now

I'm currently traveling in my camper – what should I do?

You can complete your trip as planned. Please return the camper to the station at the scheduled return time.
If you encounter any problems during your trip, our Customer Support team will do its best to assist you.

What will happen to my upcoming reservation (pickup date on or after Sunday, August 16, 2026)?

Operations will be suspended. We will cancel all reservations.
As a result, reserved vehicles can no longer be picked up.
This means:
Customers who book directly through vanever.com (payment by bank transfer)
Your claim for a refund of the amount paid is a insolvency claim. Once insolvency proceedings have been formally opened, you can file this claim with the insolvency trustee appointed at that time for inclusion in the insolvency schedule. All known customers will be informed separately and proactively about the exact timing and procedure.
Customers who paid by credit card or PayPal
Please contact your credit card provider or PayPal immediately and request a chargeback. This potential claim is directed against the payment service provider and is independent of the insolvency proceedings. Please act quickly, as there are time limits for chargebacks.
Customers who booked through Check24
Check24 is holding booking funds that have not yet been paid out to FreeVenture GmbH. Please contact Check24 directly to assert your claims. As the payment intermediary, Check24 is your first point of contact for refunds related to bookings processed through this platform.

What happens to my deposit?

If you’ve traveled with us in the past, you may still be waiting for your security deposit to be refunded. We always ask our customers to pay the security deposit by credit card. If this applies to you, the deposit was merely placed on hold and will be released within 4–6 weeks. If you paid the deposit via bank transfer or debit card, or if you are still owed any refunds, these claims are also considered “insolvency claims,” which can be filed with the insolvency schedule once proceedings have been opened. A refund is no longer legally permissible at this time. As of now (prior to the opening of insolvency proceedings), filing a claim is legally inadmissible—that is, not yet possible.

What happens to my refund?

Your claim for a refund of the amount paid is a insolvency claim. Once insolvency proceedings have been formally opened, you can file this claim with the insolvency trustee appointed at that time for inclusion in the insolvency schedule. All known customers will be informed separately and proactively about the exact timing and procedure.

I still have a voucher—what should I do?

Unfortunately, your claim based on the voucher is also an insolvency claim. Once insolvency proceedings have been formally opened, you can file this claim with the insolvency administrator appointed at that time and have it added to the insolvency schedule.

Can I still cancel my booking?

We have canceled all bookings. Therefore, you do not need to cancel anything yourself.
Your claim for a refund of the amount paid is an insolvency claim. You may be able to receive a refund through your credit card provider, PayPal, or check24.de; see the notes above under “Consequences.” If you do not receive your money back through your credit card provider, PayPal, or check24.de, you can file this claim with the insolvency administrator appointed after the formal opening of the insolvency proceedings and have it included in the insolvency schedule. Currently—before the insolvency proceedings have been opened—filing a claim is legally prohibited and therefore not yet possible. All known customers will be informed separately and proactively about the exact timing and procedure.

Do I still have to pay outstanding invoices to Vanever?

Yes. Outstanding invoices (unpaid amounts or damage claims) must still be paid. If necessary, the provisional insolvency administrator must collect such claims through legal action.

General Information on the Preliminary Insolvency Proceedings

FreeVenture GmbH (Vanever Camper Rental) has filed for insolvency. To protect the company’s assets and prevent any potentially detrimental changes, preliminary insolvency administration has been ordered. The Munich Local Court has initiated the proceedings under case number 1501 IN 3042/26 and appointed attorney Rolf Pohlmann as provisional insolvency administrator on August 12, 2026. Mr. Pohlmann and his team are tasked with monitoring our company’s financial affairs and safeguarding its assets in the best interests of all creditors. Effective immediately, any disposition of FreeVenture GmbH’s assets requires his approval to be valid.

What We’d Like to Add

Until the very end, we did everything in our power to preserve Vanever, continue business operations, and make the trips booked to date possible. Unfortunately, we were no longer able to do so. We know this is no consolation, but we would still like to apologize to you.
However, we will continue to do everything in our power to make the situation as transparent and orderly as possible for all customers.
