But what if I'd rather be free in nature with my camper or motorhome than at a campsite? Is wild camping allowed in Slovenia?
Bad news for everyone who's not into camping: Wild camping and free standing with the camper is prohibited in Slovenia on both public and private land (even with the permission of the owner). Those who defy the ban risk hefty fines which can be up to €500. Especially in nature reserves, there are very strict controls; in the low season and away from tourist hotspots, however, wild camping and free standing is more tolerated - but even then it's not allowed so there's still a residual risk even if a farm in a rural area gives you permission to camp on their property.

Campsites in the Julian Alps
The Julian Alps are one of Slovenia's scenic highlights. More and more tourists are discovering the area for themselves which is why you'll find a variety of campsites here with different advantages. If you want to combine camping with extensive hiking tours this is the right place for you. Near the famous Lake Bled, one of the most beautiful of the Slovenian lakes, there are also three incredibly beautifully situated campsites (Camping Bled, Campsite by the River and the ECO River Camp) are looking forward to your visit.
Camping on the Slovenian coast
Would you rather spend your camping holiday by the sea than in the mountains? No problem, you'll also find numerous campsites close to nature along Slovenia's almost 50 kilometre long coastline. The Slovenian Riviera on the Istrian peninsula is one of the most beautiful spots in the country and a popular travel destination. Due to the tourist demand there are also several campsites directly on the coast. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle and don't mind going on a little drive to the water you can look for a place in the Karst hinterland or in the Vipava valley. Camping surrounded by vineyards is possible at the Eco-campsite Vina Saksida. Between vineyards, olive groves and orchards, it's a wonderful place to hike or cycle and the Slovenian Riviera is just a one hour drive away.
